Today I read that Virgin Atlantic will offer live stand-up comedy acts on certain domestic flights. Wait, what? An airline that allows stand-up comedians to perform during a flight?! This can’t be true, right?

Well, it is true. As the Telegraph reports: “The airline wanted to ‘shake up domestic flying in the UK’ with the new entertainment program, said Virgin Atlantic founder Sir Richard Branson.” That’s what I call brand rebellion, wouldn’t you?

The live in-flight comedy and music program is just the latest surprise that the marketing masterminds at Virgin Airlines came up with. Known for their “flying in the face of ordinary” brand slogan, Sir Branson’s airline is notorious for making people’s flight experience dazzling and extraordinary.

Virgin’s secret to delivering on its brand promise? Dare to be different, dare to surprise your audience with unexpected features and benefits. Or like Sir Richard Branson likes to put it:

“People in business who succeed have swallowed their fear and have set out to create something special, something to make a difference to people’s lives.” ~Sir Richard Branson

How can you make a difference to people’s lives?

Ponder on the following questions to kick-start your very own brand rebellion:

Have you ever thought about what you could offer to your audience that’s out of the ordinary and somewhat unexpected? Even if that meant that you’d have to swallow your fear of stepping into unknown terrain?

How can you add some extra dazzle to your products, services or offerings?

What would it take to partner with someone outside of your industry (like Virgin Airlines partnering with stand-up comedians) that could elevate the way people experience your brand?

How can you deliver an unexpected pleasure that will make your audience laugh or feel special and pampered?

Can’t wait to hear about what you’ll think up for your biz! Let me know by leaving your comment here.
