Giving Tuesday is one of my favorite days of the year. Because it’s all about GIVING and contributing. As a nonprofit or charitable organization you can focus on the giving aspect of #GivingTuesday and don’t feel bad about asking for (extra) donations.
In a recent blog post by Classy.org, the organization revealed that “Giving Tuesday brings in an incredible number of new donors. New donors acquired through Giving Tuesday are more likely to donate again than donors giving for the first time to other events.”
The most successful Giving Tuesday campaigns are focused on online giving. Here is a pro tip from Classy.org: “Giving Tuesday is an online event and online fundraising campaigns show much more engagement than offline efforts, both in terms of donation volume and gift sizes. Given the short window of giving, focus on crowdfunding and donation pages, and save peer-to-peer fundraising for post-Giving Tuesday to re-engage your new donors.”
Giving Tuesday Social Media Toolkit
To make your activities and contributions to #GivingTuesday visible, GivingTuesday.org has put together a free social media tool kit that helps you create social media messages and come up with ideas for video or written storytelling. For example, you can do an #UNselfie, or the selfless selfie, which is “a powerful way to show how and why you are giving.”
Use the GivingTuesday.org #UNselfie template to take a selfless selfie and share why or how you are giving this year.
28 Free Giving Tuesday Social Media Templates
Classy.org offers 28 free Giving Tuesday social media templates, 14 for Facebook and 14 for Twitter. On their website, they suggest to “use these to build, or refine, your social media plan leading up to, the day of, and after Giving Tuesday.”
Of course, don’t forget to include the hashtag #GivingTuesday whenever you share your content on social media.
