Communications Rebel Approach
My approach to branding and marketing is based on the premise that we are all human. Digital marketing today relies on analytics, automation, and templated tools to generate what marketers call “leads”. Social media has made many business owners believe that a Like or a pageview equals business growth — but these vanity metrics do not necessarily correlate to the numbers that really matter.
What’s more, social media has changed how we consume content, and an ever-growing variety of channels and content platforms makes it challenging for many of us to plan and manage our content marketing and build a purposeful brand — especially if you run a young social business or a non-profit on a limited budget, or if you are an executive or solopreneur who wants to build a personal brand.
Shift Your Focus To A Human-First Approach
Many of my clients are so scared that they will never be able to reach their audience everywhere that they end up not communicating anywhere. Others fear they miss out on opportunities to engage because they don’t have the bandwidth to be active on every platform — I call this brand FOMO.
I’ll help you shift your attention to a human-first approach. For those of us who don’t have a million dollar annual marketing budget, we can’t hire a team to help us be active everywhere. And frankly, that’s also not necessary because you don’t want to build a ubiquitous brand like Coca Cola or Nike — you want to build a meaningful movement of super-committed people who support you, buy from you, or champion your cause.
Embrace True Connection
Humans take action — like buying from you or donating to your cause — when they relate to you. We need to feel emotionally connected and we need to share your vision for the world. Only those who feel as passionately about your ideas as you do will trust you enough to take action.
I embrace Seth Godin’s words, “Marketing is about spreading ideas, and spreading ideas is the single most important output of our civilization.”
Let’s spread your ideas — together!
Guiding Ideas
We First
Switching our perspective to what we can contribute to the common good. For a better future for all.
Allyship
Taking on the struggle as our own. We stand up and transfer the benefits of our privilege to those who lack it.
Peaceful Resistance
Promoting social change through symbolic protests, civil disobedience, economic or political noncooperation, while being nonviolent.
Mindful Change
To build a sustainable future for all, we turn to mindfulness. Because self-compassion leads to having empathy for others.
Communications Rebel Manifesto
Every communications rebel needs a public declaration of their intentions, motives, and beliefs. That’s why I’m giving you the Communications Rebel Manifesto!
May it serve as your personal guide to live your #truevoice.
Print it and hang it over your desk or in your bathroom or in your rebel headquarters. I hope you’ll be motivated by these words every day as you’re making a difference in the world, as much as I am.
