One way to build trust is to let your audience look behind the scenes of your business. To be transparent in the way you do business and what you have to offer.

Your true voice doesn’t just end at the door; welcome your customers and clients inside your business’ home or into your entrepreneurial kitchen.

Everlane

What products are cooking in your kitchen?

Let them get a glimpse behind the real you and what makes you tick. Let them smell what projects or products are cooking in your kitchen. The more transparent you are, the better your audience can get to know you. <– Tweet this if you agree! The better your audience knows you, the more they will trust you, and the higher the chances that they will buy from you or do business with you.

A brand that knows: Everlane

A great example of a business that has made transparency its number one priority is online fashion label Everlane. A true communications rebel, Everlane shakes up the fashion industry by letting their customers know exactly which factories their clothes and accessories are manufactured at and at what cost.

Radical transparency

This “radical transparency” model, as Everlane calls it, not only creates trust between the fashion label and its customers. Everlane also knows that by being super transparent and responsible in the way they’re making business decisions, they attract a certain customer clientele: the customer that wants to buy from them for exactly those reasons. That customer will become a loyal fan, like myself.

How does Everlane achieve radical transparency? By communicating openly with clients and invite them into their factories and have them take a look behind the scenes.

Instagram factory tour

A recent photo tour of their Los Angeles factories revealed how their t-shirts are made. Everlane didn’t just ask anyone to tour their LA factories: They invited eight Instagrammers inside their mill, dye house and sewing factory. Photos were shared on the Everlane website and gave the chosen Instagram photographers the opportunity to shine and share their gorgeous shots.

Questions for you

Over to you: How can you be more transparent in your business? How can you let your audience get a peak behind the curtain into your business sanctuary? How can you communicate what you’re doing and why you’re doing it? Trust me, it will make all the difference.
